A New Jersey high school teacher has been arrested after fleeing to Florida amid allegations she had sex with a 16-year-old student.

Jennalin Garcia-Calle, 28, was taken into custody by police in Davie, Fla. on charges of second-degree sexual assault and fourth-degree child abuse, reports NBC News.

New Jersey prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow said that Garcia-Calle “knew she was being investigated”.

She reportedly fled to Florida to seek "help", reports the Sun-Sentinel newspaper.

According to prosecutors, the algebra teacher began a relationship with a 16-year-old student in December, reports NBC. Prosecutors allege that at least three sexual encounters occurred inside the school.

“She locked the door and put up paper to cover the door and the windows,” Romankow told the New Jersey Star-Ledger. “A lot of this story is disturbing.”

"The boy is not at a stage in his life where he's able to make that type of legal and quite frankly mature enough decision," he continued.

According to NBC, authorities knew about the alleged sexual relationship after the student told a family member.

The unnamed student also reportedly bragged about the encounters to friends.

"They both knew what they were doing, they both knew they were wrong," senior Imani Campbell told NBC News.

Garcia-Calle was arrested Thursday after police, acting on a tip, found her at the Recovery Institute of South Florida, a drug and psychiatric treatment center in Davie.
