Man who faked his own death, Raymond Roth, found at resort in Florida

Raymond Roth is likely to face fraud and conspiracy charges for allegedly faking his own death at Jones Beach last month, his lawyer and law enforcement sources said.

NBC News reported Roth's supposed drowning last month resulted in a five-day search involving the U.S. Coast Guard and cost tens of thousands of dollars.

He was reported missing by his 22-year-old son, Jonathan, who told authorities his father had disappeared during a swim near Jones Beach on July 28.

But the alleged scam was undone last week after Roth's brother told police Roth had called him from an Orlando resort, in Florida. 

According to The New York Daily News, his attorney, Brian Davis, said Roth will plead innocent to the charges. Roth and his son Jonathan conspired to collectmore than $50,000 in life insurance, court documents say.

Jonathan Roth was arrested last week and freed on $10,000 bond.

Newsday reported the 47-year-old, of Massapequa, checked himself in to a psychiatric hospital where he has been treated for more than a week early this morning and surrender to State Park Police in Babylon.
