The body of Reeva Steenkamp will be cremated in a private ceremony in her hometown of Port Elizabeth on Tuesday, the Associated Press reported Sunday.
The family of Steenkamp, whose boyfriend Oscar Pistorius has been charged with her murder, said the funeral in the South African coastal city will be closed to the public and the media.
“Reeva is back home,” her brother, Adam Steenkamp, was quoted by The Independent as saying.
Steenkamp was killed inside the Pretoria home of Olympic and Paralympic star Pistorius in the early hours of Valentine’s Day.
The 29-year-old model was shot multiple times.
Pistorius's family released a statement on Friday describing Steenkamp's “terrible, terrible tragedy” and disputing the murder charges "in the strongest terms."
The double amputee will attend a bail hearing on Tuesday, the same day as his girlfriend’s funeral.
Prosecutors say a bloody cricket bat found at Pistorius’s home adds to a growing pile of evidence that proves he murdered his girlfriend.
