At the World Bodypainting Festival, colorful is taken to a whole new level.
Held each year on July 3 to 5 in Pörtschach Austria, the festival showcases the amazing work of artists from around the world on a unique canvas: the human body.
The festival debuted in 1998 and is credited with founding the modern bodypainting art movement.
This year’s festival showcased painting from artists from 47 countries and awarded over $46,000 in prizes. Around 30,000 visitors wandered through "Bodypaint City" — an open-air park where they could view the elaborate bodypaintings and listen to live music.
Here are just a few photos from the festival:
At The World, we believe strongly that human-centered journalism is at the heart of an informed public and a strong democracy. We see democracy and journalism as two sides of the same coin. If you care about one, it is imperative to care about the other.
Every day, our nonprofit newsroom seeks to inform and empower listeners and hold the powerful accountable. Neither would be possible without the support of listeners like you. If you believe in our work, will you give today? We need your help now more than ever!
