Israeli official issues warning

(What is the significance of this kind of warning?) Well Vilnai’s office has issued a clarification that they meant disaster. He is a political dove but feels Israel is at wit’s end in dealing with Israeli casualties. (It is such a loaded term, is it too loaded for it to be a mistake?) I’m used to hearing Israeli figures talk and they often talk in a hyperbolic sense. (How are Israelis viewing the plight of the Palestinians in Gaza?) Right now they’re so preoccupied with the attacks on them that they have not given thought to the humanitarian aspects of the other side. They think there’s a simple end: for Hamas to stop attacks and they believe any solution must provide dignity to both sides. But this all poisons any chance of Condy Rice’s visit making any impact next week.
