The spiritual head of the Church of England is the Archbishop of Canterbury, going back to St. Augustine in the year 597. All of the archbishops that followed were men, until today. The Most Reverend Sarah Mullally was formally confirmed at a ceremony held at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. She’s now the highest ranking cleric for some 85 million Anglicans around the world.
