Amid widespread voter apathy, Iraq prepares for parliamentary elections

On November 11, Iraqi voters head to the polls to choose a new parliament from a record number of candidates. It’s a pivotal time for Iraq, as foreign investments flood the country, but seem to only benefit elites, and militias backed by Iran vie for power. Because Iraq’s parliament chooses its prime minister and president, this is the only chance for voters to have a direct say in their national government.
