Chiung Yao, a romance writer who published best-selling novels in the Chinese-speaking world, died on Wednesday. She was 86. She died at her home in New Taipei City, Taiwan. She began writing in the early ’60s, and almost single-handedly helped shape the idea of romantic love for generations. Her novels were so popular that many named their children after her characters.
