Many women in Tajikistan report facing domestic violence, or neglect when their partners migrate for work to Russia. But the war in Ukraine is drying up remittances to Tajikistan, leaving women in even more dire straits. Fariba Nawa tells the story from the capital, Dushanbe, of some activists who risk government repression by advocating for women’s rights.
