For the past few weeks, the world has been getting a rare glimpse into a heated feud between Bashar al-Assad and his maternal cousin, Rami Makhlouf. Makhlouf, the most prominent businessman in Syria and a former confidant of the president, is complaining that the government cracked down on his companies and ordered him to pay roughly $250 million in unpaid taxes.
