The Dutch were a colonial power for 250 years and enslaved more than 600,000 people in the Americas. Yet this summer, the Netherlands’ national museum of art and history has its first-ever major exhibition dedicated to the subject of slavery. It’s part of a global movement to reevaluate the way institutions portray history. But as The World’s Rupa Shenoy reports, there are still debates about what history should be remembered.
