US officials report seeing more people taking journeys like this in order to enter the US. The rise coincides with growing concerns that Donald Trump-era pandemic restrictions at the US-Mexico border, which allow immigration officials to automatically turn back migrants at the border, are forcing migrants, including asylum-seekers, to embark on such risky cross-border attempts.
