Japan to release Fukushima wastewater 

The government of Japan announced on Tuesday it would start releasing treated radioactive water from the wrecked Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean in two years’ time. The government’s decision comes 10 years after an earthquake and tsunami caused a triple-meltdown at the power plant. Industry groups say the release is safe and in line with industry guidelines, but it’s being met with opposition from the fishing industry, environmentalists and Japan’s regional neighbors.
