Group wants to clean up the carbon offset market

Carbon offsets are a commonly used tool in the world of climate solutions. The idea is simple: I burn a ton of carbon — and then I pay ypou to save a ton — keeping my carbon footprint at zero. There are billions of dollars being spent on this fast growing industry — but the problem is that integrity is low, and many offsets sold don’t equate to real saved carbon. The industry is riddled with these scandals, but a new group has formed to try to fix it. Today on the World’s climate solutions segment, The Big Fix, host Marco Werman speaks to William McDonnell, who is chief operating officer for The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market, a new nonprofit that wants to clean up the carbon offset industry.
