Drought drives food shortage and conflict in Central America, study says

It’s no surprise that environmental disasters cause conflict, and a new study in the journal Nature Water lays this connection bare. A team of researchers looked at droughts in Central America for 20 years, starting in the ‘90s, and found decreases in food production have strong links to violence in nearby cities. Environmental scientist at the University of California Berkeley Paolo D’Odorico shares the findings with The World’s host Carolyn Beeler.
