Access to abortion has changed drastically over the past decade in China. While China’s one-child policy was under effect, abortions were encouraged or even forced on people who were unwed or already had a child. But since the loosening of population restrictions, married couples have been encouraged to have more children to offset China’s aging population. As the World’s Rebecca Kanthor reports from Shanghai, that means abortions have become harder to access.
