PRI’s New Voices Fund helps develop new talent who can become the next generation of companions to public radio listeners and add fresh perspectives, original approaches, and diverse viewpoints to public media offerings. Our goal is to identify, recruit and evaluate talented writers, journalists, spoken word artists, actors, and comedians, who are not currently working in radio or who have not yet found national prominence, and prepare them to become on-air personalities.
Examples:
Stephen Tobolowsky PRI developed a pilot series of programs (The Tobolowsky Files) featuring profound, moving, and hilarious true stories written and performed by character actor Stephen Tobolowsky. Stephen has a wonderful ability to connect with people in person and on the air. To date, we have produced four broadcast programs and recorded one live event that took place on October 10th in St. Paul. We will be producing a fifth broadcast program for national distribution from the live event.
Radio Ambulante In the last year, PRI has been able to bring Radio Ambulante’s voices and perspectives to an English-speaking audience in the U.S. Support has allowed us to have Radio Ambulante produce content for PRI’s The World, in particular, the show’s Global Nation initiative, which highlights the lives of people new to the U.S. and how they see themselves in their new communities.
Who will be the next public radio talent?
