Novelist tackles the Black/Native American Crossroads

Lalita Tademy rocketed onto the bestseller list after her 2001 "Cane River" became an Oprah book pick. Her third novel, the newly released "Citizen's Creek," tracks "Cow Tom" (based on a real man) — a black American owned by the Muscogee tribe who bought his freedom; then fought for family, tribe, land, and citizenship. Tademy also talks about why she left a high-profile job as a Vice President at Sun Microsystems to become a writer, and why the loss of control writing represents allowed her to open up to love.
