Super Tuesday: Newt Gingrich wins Georgia, news organizations project

Moments after the closure of polls, CNN has projected that former House of Representatives speaker Newt Gingrich will win the state of Georgia, according to a bulletin flashed on the news broadcaster’s website.

Based on exit polls, the projection reflected the confidence and commanding lead that Gingrich had in his home state, where he was unable to vote given that he currently resides in Virginia. With one percent of the Georgia vote counted, Gingrich had already collected 39 percent.

CNN’s projection was seconded by The Associated Press.

Georgia's 76 delegates are likely to be shared with Mitt Romney, according to The New York Times.
