Israeli and Gazan forces exchanged fire late last night and into this morning following yesterday’s attacks near Eilat that left eight Israelis dead and more than 30 wounded. The attacks yesterday were reportedly carried out by armed Gazans who crossed into Israel from Egypt and they marked the most serious assault on Israel from Egyptian terrorities in decades.
Today’s escalation between the two sides comes just weeks before Palestinians plan to seek a recognition of statehood by the United Nations.
