A man reportedly killed himself by jumping from the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest skyscraper, which is in Dubai.

The skyscraper's developer informed local media that the man jumped from the 147th floor of the 2,717ft (828m) Burj Khalifa and landed on a deck on the 108th floor Tuesday morning, BBC reports.

"The concerned authorities have confirmed that it was a suicide, and we are awaiting the final report," according to a statement from the owner, Emaar Properties.

The 160-storey building opened in January 2010. This would be the first suicide there.

The man is believed to be in his twenties and of South Asian background, Reuters reports.

A local publication, 7DAYS, reported that the man jumped after his employer refused to let him take a vacation.

A worker at the 147th floor told 7DAYS that the floor had no windows or balconies. The man is believed to have climbed out of an airconditioning vent.

Authorities closed the viewing platform on the 124th floor after the incident, it states.

“I knew it must be something bad because there was a lot of activity and an investigation going on but they told us it was maintenance work," a worker told 7DAYS. "I feel very sorry for the guy.”
