Without citing sources, the newspaper O Dia reports today that President Obama is expected to lift visa requirements for Brazilian tourists traveling to the United States. The announcement will supposedly come during the president’s visit here on March 19 and 20th. The fact Brazilians must apply for a visa and pay $140 to enter the U.S. is one of the first things Americans learn upon trying to visit Brazil. The Brazilian government’s response to the admittedly irksome requirement has been to impose the same irksome requirement on Americans, while telling them why. Perhaps now, both sides can mellow out.
