Strauss-Kahn leaves New York home

Former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn left his rented home in New York Saturday, presumably to return to France.

Strauss-Kahn, who was accused of sexually assaulting a hotel maid, was seen arriving at New York's JFK airport with his wife, Anne Sinclair, and daughter, Camille, on Saturday afternoon, BBC reports.

The family was seen carrying about a half-dozen pieces of luggage, the Associated Press reports. Strauss-Kahn did not say where he was headed, but media reports in France have said he plans on flying to Paris.

Strauss-Kahn has not left the United States since he was arrested in May. The case attracted international attention, captured headlines for months and disrupted his plans to run for president in France. After being arrested, he spent about a week in jail and six weeks under house arrest. He was barred from leaving the United States for almost two months. Strauss-Kahn resigned from his position at the IMF shortly after being arrested.

The prosecution dropped the sexual assault charges against Strauss-Kahn last month after deciding the accuser, Nafissatou Diallo, was not a strong enough witness. The dismissal of the case brought an abrupt end to the three-month investigation.

“Finally, we are obviously gratified that the district attorney agreed with my lawyers that this case had to be dismissed,” Strauss-Kahn said after the case was dismissed, as reported in the New York Times. He said he looked “forward to returning to our home and resuming something of a more normal life.”

Diallo, an immigrant from Guinea, has vowed to continue to press her claims in a civil lawsuit.
