Sell Air India now, before it’s worthless

You can excuse a company for struggling when times are tough, but the more time that passes the more it begins to look like Air India couldn't make money if all the other airlines shut down. Sell it now before it's too late. Sure, there will be the inevitable cries of corruption, especially after the tardy moves to buy new planes (when things looked to be the darkest). But at least the government will get something for the company. And — more importantly — it won't have to keep throwing good money after bad.

Here's the deal: While the rest of India's aviation companies are turning profitable and re-investing to expand capacity as fast as they can, Air India actually sunk deeper into losses over the past year, losing nearly 70 billion rupees — or $1.5 BILLION dollars — after eating a loss of another billion dollars the year before, according to the Hindustan Times.

If there was ever a time to wonder why the government is in the airline business, this is it.

"Air India has singularly failed to reap the benefit in a market witnessing double-digit growth," the paper quoted a former AI executive director as saying.
