Police are investigating what caused a gunman to go on a deadly shooting rampage in a quiet Ohio town on Sunday, killing seven people and wounding another before dying in a gunfight with police, FOX reported this afternoon.

An 11-year-old child was among those killed in the shooting spree, which is believed to have started as an argument at a home in Copley Township, west of Akron, CNN reported. Five people were killed in the house around 11am and two more were shot dead on a road nearby, CNN affiliate WJW reported.

Michael E. Hance, 51 of Copley Township, shot his girlfriend first, before killing her brother next door. Becky Dieter, Hance's girlfriend, survived the attack and is in a local hospital.

A local said Hance was "an unpleasant and strange person who was not well-liked in the neighborhood."

Robin Hancock, of Akron, said Hance had recently been fighting over the estate of his girlfiend's late parents, according to Fox News.
