Pakistan flights: bomb threats force emergency landing (VIDEO)
Two planes from Pakistan received bomb threats Wednesday, and one was forced to have an emergency landing.
The flights were both operated by Pakistan's state-owned airline, Pakistan International Airlines.
The first flight, which took off from Lahore and was headed for Manchester, England, did an emergency landing after being notified of a bomb threat while flying near Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, the Associated Press reports. The plane contacted the control tower in Istanbul and landed in Turkey.
The passengers were evacuated, and the authorities then brought sniffer dogs onto the plane, Al Jazeera reports.
A second flight later on Wednesday received a bomb threat as well. It was flying from Islamabad to Kuala Lumpur and carrying 176 passengers. It managed to land safely in the Malaysia capital.
All passengers on both flights were safe, PIA spokesman Mashood Tajwar told the AP.
Al Jazeera reported that the bomb threats were delivered to the planes by email.
