After the celebrations of South Sudan's new nationhood status, the neighboring area of South Kordofan in Sudan has suffered turmoil and killings.

Thousands of Sudan's ethnic Nuba people have fled South Kordofan's capital, Kadugli, charging that the Sudan Armed Forces and militia have carried out systematic killings and ethnic cleansing of the province.

The new satellite images corroborate the witness accounts, showing evidence of freshly dug earth in the areas where the witnesses said dozens of people were buried.

The Sentinel Satellite Project has revealed aerial shots of the excavation sites.

George Clooney's Satellite Sentinel Project has photographed the South Kordofan area in the hope that informing the world about such horrors will lead to an end to the brutality in Sudan.
