Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and her husband Mark Kelly have written a joint memoir, and the book is due in bookstores on November 15.
The memoir, titled “Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope," was described in a press release as a "deeply personal account” of the couple's romance, their careers and the January 8 shooting at a political event in Arizona that left six dead and 13 wounded, including Giffords, according to Politico. The book was co-written with Jeffrey Zaslow, a Wall Street Journal columnist.
The Associated Press reports that the book will also describe Giffords' recovery over the last several months.
"[Giffords] has been fully engaged with the collaborative writing process of the book at every step," Brian Belfiglio, a spokesman for Scribner, the memoir's publisher, told the AP.
The memoir's jacket will feature a photo of Giffords and Kelly embracing before their 2007 wedding, according to The Tucson Citizen.
In a June interview, Kelly told the Citizen that he and Giffords had talked about writing a memoir for a while.
“On some levels, it [working on the book] is a tough thing for her to do,” Kelly said, “but she’s excited to do it.”
Giffords and Kelly spent Labor Day weekend in Tucson, her second visit home since she January, when she went to a rehab hospital in Houston, Texas.
On Saturday night, Giffords had dinner at her parents’ home with several of the doctors and nurses who cared for her at University Medical Center after she was shot.
“This was the first time she had seen them since January,” said Mark Kimble, a spokesman for Giffords.
Giffords returned to Houston on Monday.
