Moussa Ibrahim, the public spokesman of the beleaguered Gaddafi regime has been caught trying to evade capture dressed as a woman, according to reports.
He reportedly was detained disguised as a woman while driving in a car leaving the city.
Ibrahim's location had been unknown until yesterday.
Commanders of the National Transitional Council's forces say Ibrahim was captured last night outside Sirte, birthplace of the Gaddaffi and the scene of heavy fighting recent days, Britain's Telegraph newspaper reports.
Ibrahim became known for his press conference before foreign media in Tripoli.
Once the rebels advanced on Tripoli he broadcast a stream of pro-Gaddafi broadcasts from unknown locations.
However there is conflicting reports as to whether or not Ibrahim is still at large.
A pro-Gaddafi website denied the regime’s long-time spokesman had been seized, AFP reports.
"Moussa Ibrahim has not been captured," the website of the former state television channel Allibiya said. "This is a lying rumor aimed at distracting attention from the rebels' defeat at the hands of the heroic forces in Sirte."
