A video showing the near-death experience of an 80-year-old skydiver, who fell out of her harness after she was pushed from a plane, has gone viral after being posted on YouTube.
The video, reportedly a year old but only posted on YouTube this week, according to Australia's Fairfax press, shows "Laverne" slipping out of her harness as her instructor — and even the camera operator — grab at her clothing while they plummet 13,000 feet toward the ground.
The woman appeared upbeat at the beginning of the video, saying she was celebrating her 80th birthday by doing something she'd wanted to “for at least 10 years.”
However, while in the air, she appears to panic and clings to the aircraft's door as her tandem instructor pushes them both out into the sky, QMI Agency wrote.
Both Laverne and the instructor appear to need comforting after landing safely on the ground.
According to ABC News, the FAA is now investigating the skydiving company involved, the Parachute Center in Acampo, California.
An employee of the Parachute Center told the Daily News that the incident took place more than a year ago but would not comment on what went wrong during the jump.
“No one got hurt,” the employee said. “The equipment worked properly.”
