Tourist falls to her death taking photos in Puerto Rico
The body of a Bronx woman was found floating in a river at a popular Puerto Rican tourist destination after she slipped while posing for photos.
A tourist on vacation in Puerto Rico was killed after she fell into a river as she took photos near a waterfall at a tropical rainforest in Puerto Rico.
According to GA Daily News, Kenah Huggins, from the Bronx, in New York, was on vacation in the area when the tragedy happened on Sunday.
The accident happened in the popular tourist spot of El Yunque National Forest near Rio Grande, an area that attracts up to 1 million visitors a year.
Media reports said Huggins was apparently taking photographs in the mountain park when she slipped and lost her footing. After falling into the rushing river, she was swept away.
"She ended up in the pond, slipped, lost balance and fell into the water," search and rescue manager Victor Lasanta told Puerto Rican newspaper, El Nuevo Dia.
The New York Daily News said Huggins' body was found a few hours after she fell. Police began recovery efforts at the mountain park, which sits just southeast of the island’s capital, San Juan.
In a similar incident last week, a young bride was killed as she posed for photos in her wedding gown in Canada.
Maria Pantazopoulos was having photos taken in her dress with the Dorwin Falls as a backdrop in Rawdon, north of Montreal, when the tragedy happened.
