South Park writers/creators Matt Stone (L) and Trey Parker (R) arrive at ‘South Park’s’ 15th Anniversary Party at The Barker Hanger on September 20, 2011 in Santa Monica, California.
Founder of a now-defunct Muslim website, Jesse Morton was sentenced to 11-and-a-half years in prison Friday for issuing threats against the creators of the animated television show "South Park" and a Seattle cartoonist, reported POLITICO.
Morton had threatened "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone over their depiction of Mohammed who appears in one episode in a bear costume, according to the Guardian.
The 33-year-old Morton, also known as Younus Abdullah Muhammed, ran the Revolution Muslim website and "had already admitted using it for al-Qaeda propaganda" the BBC reported. Co-accused Zachary Chesser received a 25-year sentence in February.
The BBC wrote "Chesser, a 20-year-old American Muslim convert, was handed a stiffer sentence as he had twice tried to travel to Somalia to join al-Shabab, which the US designates as a terrorist group."
US District Court Judge Liam O'Grady imposed the hefty sentence even though his lawyer sought a prison term of less than five years.
Morton had apologized saying he had "contributed to a clash of civilizations."
The Guardian wrote Morton and Chesser also conspired to solicit the murder of an artist linked to the Everyone Draw Muhammad Day movement in May 2010.
