Texas Gov. Rick Perry stumbled on the name of a US Supreme Court justice and forgot how many there are during an interview with the Des Moines Register today.
While meeting with the editorial staff of the Des Moines Register, Perry criticized Obama's supreme court appointments.
"When you see his appointment of two, from my perspective, inarguably activist judges, whether it was…" he said, trailing off, the Associated Press reported.
Then, he paused for six seconds. "Not Montemayor," he said.
Finally, one of the newspaper's employees let him know that the Justice he was referring to was named Sonia Sotamayor.
Perry went on to state the incorrect number of supreme court justices later in the interview. He believed that there were eight instead of nine justices.
This is not the first time that Perry has made a gaffe while on the campaign trail. During a debate in November, he forgot one of the three US government departments he was pledging to eliminate.
"Sorry, oops," Perry said when he realized he couldn't remember the name of the department.
