BEIRUT, Lebanon — Syrian tanks shelled the city of Hama on Thursday, turning attention to another city as the government racks up victories over a scattered rebellion against its rule.
The BBC reported that activists described "the northern and eastern districts of Hama as 'a battlefield', and says bodies are having to be buried in a local park." Fighting between the Free Syrian Army and Syrian troops was reported on Wednesday, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported a ground invasion.
Reuters said activists claimed the regime "heavily shelled" the Arbaeen neighborhood, with at least 20 dead since a renewed army assault began two days ago.
