Prince Philip hospitalized with bladder infection

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, was hospitalized in Britain on Monday with a bladder infection and will miss part of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee celebration, Buckingham Palace told CNN.

The Palace said in a statement that he is being hospitalized "as a precautionary measure after developing a bladder infection, which is being accessed and treated. He is, understandably, disappointed about missing this evening’s Diamond Jubilee Concert and tomorrow’s engagements," officals said.

This also means he will miss Tuesday's ceremonial, the climax of the four-day jubilee celebrations, which includes a service of thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral, a reception at the Guildhall, a Livery luncheon at Westminster Hall and a carriage procession through London, according to the Guardian.

Philip will be 91 on Sunday. 

Last year on his 90th birthday, Philip told BBC he would greatly reduce his workload, and focus on enjoying his life.

"I reckon I've done my bit. I want to enjoy myself now … have less responsibility, less frantic rushing about, less preparation, less trying to think of something to say," he said. 

It’s the second time the prince has been hospitalized in the past six months, according to Business Week. In December Philip had a coronary stent inserted for a blocked artery after suffering chest pains, causing him to miss the royal family’s Christmas celebrations.

The Queen and Prince Philip married on Nov. 20, 1947, in London’s Westminster Abbey. They have four children, Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward. 

The Queen has called Prince Philip her "strength and stay." "He is someone who doesn't take easily to compliments, but he has, quite simply, been my strength and stay over all these years, and I owe him a greater debt than he would ever claim, or we shall ever know," she said in 1997, according to the Guardian.
