Pena Nieto sworn in as Mexican president during inauguration ceremony

Enrique Pena Nieto of the Institutional Revolutionary Party was sworn in as Mexico's new president today amid protests inside and outside the Congress in Mexico City.

Members of the leftist Democratic Revolutionary Party staged a demonstration inside the Congress while anti-Pena Nieto protests clashed with police outside the building.

Shortly before the inauguration ceremony, Pena Nieto tweeted: "Mexico is a big country and today we need to be united together."

"In the following years we must work for Mexico. Let's leave the divisions and move forward together."
