Former Beatle Paul McCartney turned 70 on Monday, celebrating his birthday in private.
McCartney is one of the two surviving Beatles and "referred to as a British national treasure" wrote the UK's Daily Mail.
He recently performed at Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee concert and will help open the London Olympics on July 27.
John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono wished him a happy birthday on Twitter and Paul Weller released a digital version of the Beatles' song "Birthday," according to the Associated Press.

In October, McCartney married Nancy Shevell, following a divorce from Heather Mills. His first wife, Linda, died of breast cancer in 1998.
The New York Daily News wrote in February, he released "Kisses on the Bottom," a new album with new songs as well as cover of classics like “Bye Bye Blackbird.”
