Obama winning among independents in 12 key swing states, Gallup poll shows
The group of voters who will determine who is US president from 2013 to 2017 are clearly leaning in favor the incumbent.

Two hundred and sixteen days to go and the Obama camp are hoping these numbers hold up.
Fresh off Monday’s news that Obama is winning the women’s vote, a new Gallup poll released today shows Obama also winning independents in 12 key states by a margin of 48 percent to 39 percent over Mitt Romney.

The results announced today are also based on the most recent USA Today/Gallup swing states poll conducted March 20 to March 26 in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin, Gallup said.
Rick Santorum, who faces increasing pressure to end his campaign, fares even worse, trailing the president 53 percent to 32 percent.
Among all swing state voters, Obama leads Romney by 51 percent to 42 percent, the first time he has done so in five successive surveys, according to Gallup.

The Democrat-aligned polster Public Policy Polling today also released survey results from Nevada (PDF), indicating that the president enjoys an 8-point lead over Romney in that state. A RealClearPolitics average gives Obama a 6.7 percent advantage there.
