Mitt Romney's presidential campaign raised $12.6 million in March, said a financial report released on April 20, according to the Associated Press.
Though according to aides it was the best fundraising month of his campaign, the figure is still dwarfed by President Barack Obama's fundraising figures for March which amounted to $53 million, for his campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
Reuters also noted that the $12.6 million mark was reached while Romney was still facing competition from rival Rick Santorum, who has since dropped out of the presidential race. Romney also has around $10 million cash in hand, and over the course of the last year, his campaign raised $87 million.

Romney's finance chairman, Spencer Szwick, said, "Mitt Romney's continued strong fundraising shows that voters across the country are tired of the failures from President Obama. We will continue the hard work to raise the necessary funds to defeat President Obama and change the direction of the country," according to Reuters.
While individual campaigns can only accept contributions of $2,500 during the primaries and another $2,500 during the general election, joint funds like ones with the Republican National Committee can accept contributions of up to $70,800 across their local, state and district branches, according to the Federal Election Commission's guidelines, The Chicago Tribune said.

The Republican super PAC American Crossroads raised a combined $100 million along with its nonprofit arm, said the AP, and it is expected to play a major role in the general election.
The president and CEO of Crossroads, Steven Law, said, "Our supporters are alarmed about where President Obama is taking the country, and they feel that by supporting Crossroads, they can do something about it," according to Politico. Crossroads is backed by former George W. Bush adviser Karl Rove.
Priorities USA Action, a super PAC that supports Obama, raised $10 million in the period from early 2011 through February, according to the AP.
Romney is scheduled to address the RNC's state chairman's national meeting today in Scottsdale Arizona, according to the Guardian.
