Marco Rubio not being vetted for Romney’s VP: ABC News

Marco Rubio is not being vetted to be Mitt Romney's running mate, ABC News reported today.

Many Republicans assumed that Florida's Sen. Marco Rubio would be at the top of any Republican candidate's presidential list. Rubio is wildly charismatic and extremely popular with conservatives, and his Hispanic background could help Republicans win Florida, a key state.

However, according to ABC News, Rubio is not being vetted by Romney's vice presidential search team.

He has not been asked to complete any questionnaires or been asked to turn over any financial documents typically required of potential vice presidential candidates.

According to ABC News, it's still possible that Rubio will go through the vetting process, but it's been two months since Romney asked an aide to run the vice presidential search. Rubio has not been asked to turn over any documents, knowledgeable republican sources have said, and this is seen as an indication that he is not on Romney's short list.

Many prominent Republicans, including former Florida governor Jeb Bush, have openly encouraged Romney to choose Rubio as his running mate, the NY Daily News reported.

Rubio's memoir, "An American Son," hit bookstands today. In the 303-page book, Rubio addressed some of the criticism he faced from political opponents and the media. According to the Associated Press, the book reads as though Rubio is vetting himself for the process.

"The lesson I've learned is that every decision that we make is going to be viewed by some in the most negative way possible," Rubio said. "You can't always avoid it, but you want to avoid it primarily because every minute you spend explaining a decision is a minute you can't spend talking about public policy."
