LAPD apologizes to Notorious B.I.G.’s family for autopsy
Fifteen years after the fatal shooting of Christopher Wallace (aka Notorious B.I.G.), police release his autopsy report.
The Los Angeles Police Department has apologized to the family of late rapper Christopher Wallace, known as Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie Smalls, for releasing his autopsy without warning them first.
Last Friday, the LAPD gave approval to the coroner's office to release the autopsy. But the LAPD says that his family wasn't warned first and blames the snafu on an "administrative error," the Los Angeles Times reported.

"Due to an administrative error, the autopsy report was released prematurely. Robbery-Homicide Division detectives had intended to notify Mr. Wallace's family prior to releasing the report," the LAPD said in a statement.
"Our detectives personally spoke with the Wallace family [Friday] night, and apologized for not notifying them prior to the release," Capt. Billy Hayes, who heads the Robbery-Homicide Division, told the Associated Press.
The autopsy, released 15 years after Wallace's death, reveals that Wallace was struck by three bullets but only one was fatal.
