John Goodman, Florida polo tycoon, agrees to $46 million DUI death settlement

Florida polo tycoon John Goodman has agreed to a $46 million settlement with the parents of a 23-year-old man he was convicted of killing in a drunken driving crash two years ago.

Lili and William Wilson, Scott Wilson's parents, will each receive $23 million as part of the settlement, ABC News reported.

Both parties have been tight-lipped about the settlement reached just days before the start of Goodman's trial in March, but the amount was revealed in a motion for bond filed Wednesday, according to ABC.

Goodman's attorneys want him freed from prison pending his appeal for a new trial, according to the Palm Beach Post.

A Florida jury convicted Goodman on March 23 of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide in the February 2010 death of Scott Wilson, who drowned after his car was hit by Goodman and pushed into a canal in Wellington, Fla., CNN reported.

The multi-millionaire founder of the International Polo Club Palm Beach claimed his $200,000 car malfunctioned and lurched forward. He has also denied being drunk at the time of the crash, although his blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit three hours after the crash, according to ABC.

Goodman faces up to 30 years in prison at his sentencing April 30, according to CNN.

He made headlines earlier this year when court documents  revealed he had adopted his 42-year-old girlfriend, Heather Colby Hutchins, as his daughter, the New York Post reported.

Goodman claimed he did so as a way to better manage a trust fund for his two biological children, but attorneys for Wilson's parents had alleged the adoption was simply an attempt to shield his assets, according to the Post.
