Internet porn: The Internet is getting a porn search engine

Internet porn decided (as a group) that Google, Ask.com, Yahoo, Netscape Navigator and all the rest of the search engines weren't good enough anymore, so Internet porn decided to do something about it. 

Internet porn is getting its own search engine.

The ICM Registry unveiled Search.xxx, which will allow users to more easily sort through the adult content available on the .XXX domains, according to PC Mag. 

Stuart Lawley, CEO of ICM Registry, said in a statement, "ICM Registry has worked for more than a decade to build .XXX into a globally accepted place for responsible adult online entertainment. With a search engine dedicated to helping people find precisely what they want amid millions of pages of content, we're providing an entirely new adult content experience in a safe, privacy protected and trusted environment." Clearly it's not the size of the Internet porn search engine that matters, it's how you use it. 

The ICM added that there will be "effective searching for any fetish or genre, across multiple languages and sexual orientations," by the search engine crawling the 21 million pages with the .XXX domain. 

While 14 year old boys everywhere are high-fiving (with their non-dominant hand), the US government is a little less impressed. 

When ICANN approved the .xxx domains last year, Assistant Secretary of Commerce Larry Strickling told Fox News, “ICANN ignored the clear advice of governments worldwide, including the US. This decision goes against the global public interest, and it will open the door to more Internet blocking by governments and undermine the stability and security of the Internet.”

But does it work? Forbes.com writer Michael Humphrey took it for a "test drive" (for "research") to find out. Humphrey wrote:

The initial interface, as well as the whole site, takes cues from Google, with a clean ad-free look and just a few initial choices: light or dark theme, language and orientation. Once you start searching, the choices expand to specific keyword verticals ranging from “Amateur” to “Webcam” with several dozen options between. Links take you to a combination of free and paid sites. And that’s probably good for the consumer, though it hasn’t do much for the once prosperous Internet pornographer.

Those using the search engine are required to be 18 or older, but really all they have to do is click a box claiming they are 18.
