A senior officer at Fort Bragg was shot dead today, allegedly by an enlisted soldier.
According to the Army Times, the enlisted soldier is an E-4 and is said to have shot the officer and then turned the gun on himself. A ricocheting bullet injured a second soldier.

A statement from the army post said the shooting happened at around 3:30 p.m. local time, reported the Associated Press. Officials said drivers and pedestrians should avoid the Fort Bragg historic district until further notice.
There was no indication of the shooter's motive, according to NBC.
WECT North Carolina reported that the shooting happened during a safety brief. The shooter is said to be injured and in custody.
"This is a tragedy for our community. We don't yet know the reasons for the shooting, but are working with the unit and the affected families to help them through this difficult period," said Col. Kevin Arata, XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg public affairs officer, according to WECT. "Our prayers are with those who have been affected by this terrible incident."
