“Dirty Picture” most viewed mobile clip in India this year

What's in a name?  Well, clips from "Dirty Picture," the Bollywood biopic about softcore porn star Silk Smitha attracted more viewers than any other mobile content this year.

Other big hits included the Internet song sensation Kolaveri Di (Why this rage?) and video footage of the tsunami that hit Japan, according to data tabulated by mobile phone company Vuclip (and the mobile Indian).

According to the data, 1.3 million people have watched clips of The Dirty Picture, while 2.4 million people in India watched tsunami footage on their mobile phones.

ShahRukh Khan's Ra.One (a Bollywood sci-fi flick) also managed 800,000 viewers.

My favorite blogging subject, model Poonam Pandey, came in well ahead of both Veena Malik and Indian-origin porn star Sunny Leone.  Poonam racked up 100,000 viewers, while Veena got 18,000 and Sunny only 2,500.

Footnote: Poonam Pandey promised to strip if the cricket team won the World Cup, then reneged on her promise and launched a web site featuring her rolling around on the bed in her underwear instead.  Veena Malik posed nude (vital parts hidden) on the cover of a men's magazine, then claimed that the photo was a fake, and then admitted it was real (I think — I stopped paying attention, even to the tweets).  And Sunny's hardcore porn videos are available for download on her web site — though she was recently told to stop using her appearance on the Indian reality TV series Bigg Boss to promote them.

Their relative popularity has to say SOMETHING about Indian culture, right?
