Former Vice President Dick Cheney has been released from a Virginia hospital 10 days after undergoing a heart transplant.
Cheney, 71, who has suffered at least five heart attacks since 1978, underwent surgery March 24 at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., CNN reported.

"As he leaves the hospital, the former Vice President and his family want to again express their deep gratitude to the donor and the donor's family for this remarkable gift," his office said in a statement.
Cheney waited nearly two years for the transplant, The Associated Press reported.
He suffered his most recent heart attack in 2010, and had surgery that same year to insert a small pump into his left ventricle, according to the AP.

Nine years earlier, Cheney got a pacemaker after experiencing irregular heart rhythms, CNN reported.
Cheney’s eldest daughter, Liz, tweeted a picture of her father’s homecoming Tuesday morning. The tweet contained one word: “Home," according to ABC News.
The former Wyoming congressman served as vice president to President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009, and had worked in and out of government since the late 1960s, according to CNN.
