Chrysler recalls 87,000 Jeeps

Chrysler has some bad news for people who bought a Jeep in 2010: the car you've been driving around town for the past two years might randomly catch on fire. Chrysler is now recalling 87,000 Jeeps from the 2010 model year because they are a fire hazard. Chrysler knows of at least 14 complaints of fire caused by this defect, the Associated Press reported.

The Jeep cars with the model year 2010 with automatic transmissions have a defect that allows debris to get caught in between the transmission and the exhaust system. "If this occurs, the debris can ignite without warning, resulting in a vehicle fire," the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says on its website.

The recall comes just several months after another Jeep recall in March. Chrysler had to recall 210,000 Jeep Liberty sport utility vehicles then because of excessive corrosion, which "could lead to a loss of control by the driver," Reuters reported.
