‘Breaking Dawn Part 2’ grosses $71.2 million opening day

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2" grossed $71.2 million by the end of Friday in the US, Entertainment Weekly reported.

The "Twilight" finale is expected to take in $135-140 million at the box office.

The opening fell just shy of the first installment of "Breaking Dawn – Part 1" which earned a cool $71.6 million.

Outside the US, the movie, which debuted Wednesday, earned another $91 million during its first three days, MTV wrote.

The film is based on the series of books by Stephenie Meyer and star Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.

Over the weekend, a 20-year-old Missouri man was arrested after admitting he purchased weapons and planned to shoot up a local movie theater opening for "Breaking Dawn – Part 2," MTV reported. Police are holding Blaec Lammers on $500,000 bond.

Officials said Lammers' mother said he intended to duplicate the "Dark Knight Rises" theater shootings over the summer.
