Barack Obama downs a pint of Guinness for Saint Patrick’s Day at The Dubliner (Video)

Among Americans, there are 36.2 million people who can trace their heritage to Ireland.

Given that President Barack Obama is one of them, the White House it appears, will shrink from nothing.

According to the Associated Press, the fountain at the South Lawn of the White House is running Green and the president himself took his motorcade to The Dubliner, a Washington pub where he was seen by all to quaff a pint of Guinness Stout.

According to the AP, the president was joined by Henry Healy, an eighth cousin and the closest relative still living in Moneygall, Ireland, from where the president’s maternal great-great-great grandfather Falmouth Kearney, a shoemaker who came to the US in 1850, came.

Irish premier Enda Kenny will visit the White House on Tuesday for a luncheon with the president and Vice President Joe Biden and then an evening reception with Michelle Obama.

According to the AP, the crowd around the president included revelers in green hair and others wearing “leprechaun hats.” Obama was said to be briefly seen by reporters to take a few sips of Guinness, which formed a foamy pencil mustache on his upper lip. Some chanted “four more years.”

According to The New York Times, the Obama campaign recently corrected the image carried on Irish-themed campaign T-shirts which had originally shown four-leaf clovers but now have three-leaved shamrocks.

Barack and Michelle Obama visited Ireland last year and were given a rapturous reception.
