George Zimmerman's wife Shellie pleaded guilty to a perjury charge for lying to a judge at her husband's bond hearing prior to his murder trail in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Last month, a Florida jury acquitted Zimmerman on charges of killing the unarmed 17-year-old at a housing complex in February 2012.

Shellie Zimmerman has been sentenced to one year probation and 100 hours of community service after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor perjury charge for lying at the hearing.

The guilty plea will allow Shellie Zimmerman to avoid a felony charge.

On Wednesday, she admitted to perjuring herself at an April 22, 2012 bond hearing for her husband by telling the judge that the couple had little funds.

She hid the fact that George Zimmerman had raised about $135,000 through Internet donations.

George and Shellie were recorded in calls from jail discussing how to transfer the funds from George's account to ones belonging to her and George's sister.

Shellie Zimmerman was also required to present a letter of apology to the presiding judge, Kenneth Lester.

"I am a Christian and I know the words of the Bible, espcially [sic] those of Jesus in the Gospel of John 8:32," Shellie Zimmerman wrote.

"I am sorry that I had forgotten this passage and forevermore I promise to remember, 'The truth will set you free.'"
